He sat on a lamp post . The wind blew the warm salt air in his face as he scanned the vast gulf for an easy meal. If he is lucky and smart he will live for many years. Sadly the chance of him dying tangled in discarded fishing line is a possibility. I spend many hours under docks and up in trees removing fishing line. Do any of the people know that those lines they leave lead to the death of many a bird? Probably not. Those that do know are to lazy to care. What a sad world we live in.

Such a gorgeous bird. Once when the salmon were running under the 4th avenue bridge in downtown Olympia, I sat on the sidewalk watching them for hours. There was a pair of harbor seals that would swim up and bite mouthfuls off the salmon as they swam past. There was no way they could actually catch one, as the fish were as big as the seals. On the bank was one very resourceful blue heron. When the seals bit off hunks, smaller pieces would get carried by the current into a little pool by the bank. The bird just sat there for hours feasting on salmon. Seeing this picture reminds me of that time. Thanks!
